Time For Santa To Learn

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Yes that’s right, because its almost that time of year where hundreds people get into those big red suits to help kids to have a great Christmas it has been noticed that here in the UK the majority of men going for the job are of the older generation.

With all of the recent gadgets that are around these Santas are going to need a lot of training so they know what all of the kids are actually talking about when they are asking around.

Well this is where PC World has stepped in to help out all of the Santa’s. It is unsure on why PC world have been chosen for this as they seem to know nothing about the majority of the products they sell when I ask them about it instore there seems to be one guy that knows about it!

In theory this is in place to teach the santas about all of the newest gadgets that are out like the Xbox 360 and others such things. To be honest I do not think it is necessary to do this at all. I do not a kid that sees Santa that knows hte exact specs od any of these things? It is stupid and they should be told the console names and end it there.

The one thing that these Santa’s are not being told is how much these items cost to replace so it is well worth looking into getting some gadget insurance or at the very least something like cheap laptop insurance or even cell phone insurance or you could find a very unhappy kid come January.

Make sure that if your Santa isnt trained in the new pieces of tech that you just leave.

So make sure that this year when you are going to see Santa that he knows exactly what your kid is on about or you could find yourself in a spot of trouble!

Protect Your Gadget and Your Wallet With Insurance

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The advancements in technology within the last decade has been great, no doubt about it. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.

However, what do you do when something go wrong? Many manufacturers are going wrong with repairs because it some cases, the price to repair the item is higher than the price you paid to buy it. For many of the cases, it’s down to the way the product has been made and that’s how the problem has occured. Despite the Xbox 360 being the best console to have in this current console generation, it’s been found to have had one major flaw. The 3 red rings. To any Xbox 360 owners, seeing the red rings is horrible because you basically have to hand over your wallet. Unless you are still within your warranty you are looking at paying at least 50 to have to send it off to be repaired for a problem that should not have been there in the first place.

This never used to happen with consoles such as N64 and PS1 but now we are not only seeing failures from the 360 point of view but more and more PS3s and Nintendo Wiis are being sent off for repair. It could be down to more people are playing games due to the huge amount being released within the last few months, or, it could be down to the manufacturers not fixing the problems and just selling more machines.

There is a handy little solution for this and it comes in the form of gadget insurance. This can be bought for up to 5 of any gadgets and it will set you back only 20 pound a month. Although the price does seem high, it’s alot less than if you had to repair just one of your gadgets each month. This is mainly due to the fact that if for instance you were to drop your iPhone it would cost you around 100 to repair. So if you consider the maths, insuring 5 gadgets for 20 pounds a month isn’t too much to pay to avoid paying 100 pound everytime you drop your phone. Also, when it comes to repairing gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii, they can charge you up to 180 pounds for the repair, making it cheaper to buy a new console.

You don’t have to pay to insure 5 items though, whether it’s an iPod or an Xbox, you can simply pay for iPod insurance seperately. Unfortunately, a great deal of home emergency insurance policies don’t cover your gadgets like iPods and gaming consoles.

Mobile Phones Abroad

Monday, February 1st, 2010

about taking your mobile phone with you? The first thing I would say is don’t even bother and the second is that if you are then make sure you have cheap mobile phone insurance.

Reasons

One of the main reasons that you should not be taking a phone with you is because you are going away to relax not to work or stare at a phonescreen, think of the people around you. Trust me on this one, if you have your mobile phone with you then you are twice as likely to want to contact the people back at home because you miss them. The thing is it is still going to be there when you get back so if you are really that desperate to use a phone just use a pay phone. It will certainly bee a lot cheaper than using your mobile to make the call.

Another reason why you really should not be using the phone is the roaming charges you can get from the net. This is even more so for phones such as the iPhone as they will charge you a lot of money for using the internet even if it is just a mistake.

Although you could get gadget insurance for breakages abroad it will not cover you from the mistakes you can make from all of the browsing that can be done. If you are thinking about texting then expect a large sum of money to be taken each time you ty.

Taking the phone with you is simply not worth all of the hassle which is why it is important not to take it. If you are going on holiday then make sure you look into cheap car hire insurance because at least then if something happens you are covered.

So there it is

Very Useful Office Gadgets

Friday, January 8th, 2010

So many gadgets are made to be just used in the office. What are the ones you really should think about getting?

USB Gadgets

There are hundreds of different forms of the USB gadget but these ones are just some of the best. One of my personal favorites is the USB fridge as it can keep a normal sized can of drink cool by simply plugging it into a USB slot. If you are into your teas and coffees then look out for the USB cup warmer as that allows you to keep the drink warm as it is easy to forget a cup of tea.

Sound Hats

What are you to do if your not allowed music at work? These hats look like normal hats but they aren’t as speakers are put into the hat to make it seem like you are just wearing a hat. When of course you know you are listening to your favorite tunes.

Stress Balls

Well, although you could argue that these aren’t really gadgets, you can’t argue that they have their uses when you turn up for work in a mood. This can come in very handy if you get into trouble and want to take your anger out on something.

USB Hubs

These are great as they let you plug in a lot of different USB items into them. These things are cool because they come in a lot of different forms from motorbikes to R2D2.

All of these things can make a difference to those boring serviced offices and if these gadgets aren’t enough for you, then look into getting some more interesting office furniture. Buy office chairs that are a bit different and see a difference in the way people work.

One crime in every 1000 cameras

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

New research has shown that only one crime per year will be solved with the help of computer surveillance. Since the release of this information the public are in uproar over the excessive use of surveillance equipment in and around almost every city.

A local Chief Detective said officers should do more to make use of evidence captured by the cameras which are practically on almost every street corner around the country. Video surveillance and does not mix well with Joe public. The latest statistic does strongly emphasise the effectiveness of the CCTV cameras around the country. Why do we need them if they are not solving any crimes – Where is the need in this in spy equipment? The use of CCTV is quickly being challenged as these statistics have just been released. There is a massive dissapointment in these CCTV devices. In my opinion it is only a matter of time before they have mobile phone tracking hooked up on all of us! OK – That may be a little paranoid but we are living in the big brother society.

Recent statistical research has pointed out to us that computer video technology has been extremely useful in preventing cars and vans from being stolen and vandalised. To help out with this problem people have been investing money into vehicle tracking devices which radically increases the chance of getting your car if it has been stolen. Yet the massive investment into video surveillance is still an enormous expense with little effectiveness and it creates a huge intrusion of human privacy but does not provide any improvement on our own security. What can we do? What is the value of keeping these cameras in our streets anymore? Should we get rid of them all together? You would think that no Government official would be thinking that the statistics would be as low as they are but then again I hope that they are planning for something to be done. Let’s see what happens..
