The advancements in technology within the last decade has been great, no doubt about it. With new recent breakthroughs in the form of the new iPhone being able to recognise voice recognition to the new announcement that Microsofts Project Natal for the Xbox 360 is set to have full body motion sensing capabilities with no wires and nothing plugged into you in any way at all.

However, what do you do when something go wrong? Many manufacturers are going wrong with repairs because it some cases, the price to repair the item is higher than the price you paid to buy it. For many of the cases, it’s down to the way the product has been made and that’s how the problem has occured. Despite the Xbox 360 being the best console to have in this current console generation, it’s been found to have had one major flaw. The 3 red rings. To any Xbox 360 owners, seeing the red rings is horrible because you basically have to hand over your wallet. Unless you are still within your warranty you are looking at paying at least 50 to have to send it off to be repaired for a problem that should not have been there in the first place.

This never used to happen with consoles such as N64 and PS1 but now we are not only seeing failures from the 360 point of view but more and more PS3s and Nintendo Wiis are being sent off for repair. It could be down to more people are playing games due to the huge amount being released within the last few months, or, it could be down to the manufacturers not fixing the problems and just selling more machines.

There is a handy little solution for this and it comes in the form of gadget insurance. This can be bought for up to 5 of any gadgets and it will set you back only 20 pound a month. Although the price does seem high, it’s alot less than if you had to repair just one of your gadgets each month. This is mainly due to the fact that if for instance you were to drop your iPhone it would cost you around 100 to repair. So if you consider the maths, insuring 5 gadgets for 20 pounds a month isn’t too much to pay to avoid paying 100 pound everytime you drop your phone. Also, when it comes to repairing gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii, they can charge you up to 180 pounds for the repair, making it cheaper to buy a new console.

You don’t have to pay to insure 5 items though, whether it’s an iPod or an Xbox, you can simply pay for iPod insurance seperately. Unfortunately, a great deal of home emergency insurance policies don’t cover your gadgets like iPods and gaming consoles.

The phone itself seems to be selling more by the hour but how is this happening? It helps that the ipod is there but the reason it sells is because of all of the technology crammed inside.

The iPhone is a phone and I-pod all mixed in together and that is really only the beginning, It also has internet access, Facebook, E-mail, and the now famous App store. The App store has made Apple millions as more and more “apps” are released every single day.

{Recently 02’s exclusive two year contract with Apple has run out and Vodaphone as well as Orange have both stepped in to snap up deals with them}. In just a few months both of these giant companies are going to be able to put the phone on the shelf for sale. Would someone really hold back on getting the phone simply because 02 are the providers, not likely but now there is likely to be a price war? People have a favourite provider that is certain so perhaps a few extra sales will be on the way in the New Year.

An important thing when to remember when thinking about getting the iPhone is the costs. The cost of the phone itself isn’t cheap and can be even worse if it breaks and you do not have something like Gadget Insurance. Of course buying insurance is going to cost you a little bit extra. Everyone drops the phone at one stage and it could be that you drop yours on concrete and it smashes. Personally I have dropped mine about five times and it has managed to survive so it is possible not to have insurance although I would reccomend it.

Of course there are insurance policies available for a number of things from camera insurance as well as the obvious iPhone insurance. Insurance in the long run could benefit you as gadgets are very expensive to actually replace.

If you own a laptop then you are probably already aware of why your need laptop insurance and how to get your laptop insurance at the best rate.

But how do you avoid having to make a claim on your laptop insurance in the first place?

Carry your laptop and look smart using top tips?

Top tips here will help you avoid the paid of theft, loss, or damage of your laptop.

Worse case scenario is what you start with…

If you laptop was stolen or damaged – now what?

Back up everything you need?

Files can be backed up by 2 main ways
1. Baking up of files can be done by plugging in external hard drive
2. Another way to backup files is by using remote backup service in another building

Doing the two is a good idea. Your external hard drive will back up for files and costs about £50 (US). You can then run the daily backup automatically with a software such as SecondCopy.Set com to run each day at your own times(night time is best).

You can find remote backup services available – Mozy is a good option. If you want to backup your files each day costs under US a month with com.

In both cases, if your laptop is dead or gone, then you can quickly and easily restore your files from the backup. Because your internet connection is slower, it is quicker to restore from your local hard drive.

Software license keys or codes must be available with you. Did you know that your software cannot be reinstalled without using these. Copy your entire Program Files folder and your entire My Documents folder – this will make the restore much easier.

Hide your sensitive data within a lock softare like roboform or another similar.

Now some tips to minimise the risk of laptop theft so you dont need to claim on your laptop insurance so.

Where ever possible travel without your laptop. Keep your laptop in any place you feel it would be safe.

Laptop bags can be a sign to the thief so avoid laptop bags. Owning a laptop and carrying it right now is a big sign to thieves. If you want your laptop protected from knocks put it in metal or hard plastic spines.

Friday is the day when laptop theft chances are more as per statistics hence, never travel on this day.

Please keep your ruck sack safe by programming your mind to keep the body in contact with the bag. Always put one foot through the bag strap in a high risk area to minimise the risk of it being snatched.

If you follow the simple steps you will minimise laptop theft or damage and the difficultes to claim laptop insurance.
